Do you still have some burning questions about credit scores and credit repair? See if we’ve answered your question in our FAQ page! We’ve gotten a bunch of questions over the years, so we’ve answered some of the most common ones below.
What is Credit Repair?
Credit repair is the process of fixing or restoring a poor credit score. This process consists of addressing any questionable negative items that could be hurting your credit profile and one thing is certain – it takes time. We at New Credit Life always advise our clients not to fall for scams that promise easy, overnight credit repair.
Is Credit Repair Legal?
Yes—you have a legitimate and legal right to a fair, accurate, and substantiated credit report. While there are many laws that apply to your credit, the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) are the two laws we leverage the most.
Can I Do My Own Credit Repair?
Yes, it is possible for you to do your own credit repair, however, it can hurt you in the long run especially if you haven’t done your homework. There are a lot of things that can be easily missed out if you don’t have the experience or knowledge that credit repair experts have.
How Many Points Can I Expect My Score to Go Up?
Scores and point increases vary from case to case. Clients who lack the necessary credit accounts and types will not see as much of a credit score increase as someone who already possesses multiple lines of positive credit. For clients who do not have much, or ANY positive credit at all, the goal is to remove the negative accounts first, then focus on rebuilding and re-establishing new clean credit, which will result in higher scores reporting month after month.
How Long Do Negative Items Stay on a Credit Report?
Most negative items will fall off of your report after seven years, though some deletions may take as long as ten years to disappear. The truth is that the credit grantor or the credit bureau can choose to delete the negative credit listing at any time, especially when you give them a reason to do so. If you’d rather not wait that long, then credit repair is a great alternative.
What do I Need to Do on My End?
For our clients, all we typically ask for is education, communication, and most importantly patience. When we submit disputes and challenges on your behalf, the bureaus and creditors will always respond directly back to you! For the purpose of your own privacy, creditors will never send the results of their investigations to us. Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain consistent communication with us so we can continue our work. When you receive correspondence back, email that correspondence to us as soon as possible.
What If An Item Gets Put Back On My Credit File After It Has Been Deleted?
We have heard of this happening to people in the past. We want you to know that we do everything in our power to prevent this and it has never happened in our experience. However, to protect you, If you come back to us and show proof that an item we took off has come back, we will work on getting it deleted once again.
Will We Be Getting Updates About The Process?
New Credit Life gives our clients 24/7 access to their own client portal for frequent messages as to what is being challenged. You will never be left wondering where we are in the process. Not to mention our lines are always open for call or text.
